The use of social robots in mental health: what ethical issues?

The promise of social robotics is that, in the near future, we will be able to have a lasting personal relationship with robots designed to “be with us” according the American anthropologist Sherry Turkle [1], to interact with human beings. However, the gap between that dream and reality remains wide. Are some of the ethical questions being raised in the public debate disproportionate given the current state of development of this technology?
